Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP)

Early Years Pupil Premium (EYPP) “The purpose of the Early Years Pupil Premium is to help narrow the gap between children from disadvantaged backgrounds and their peers, by giving early years settings extra funding to improve the quality of learning and development opportunities they offer.” (DfE Consultation)

Who is eligible for Early Years Pupil Premium? EYPP funding is available for 3- and 4-year-olds if their family receives one of the following benefits:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
  • Income-based Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit (but not also receiving Working Tax Credit) with an annual gross household income of £16,190 or less
  • Working Tax Credit run-on (the 4-week payment after stopping Working Tax Credit)
  • Universal Credit, with annual net earned income of no more than £7,400
  • The child is currently looked after by a local authority (in England or Wales)
  • The child has left care in England or Wales through: • an adoption order • a special guardianship order • a child arrangements order

How does the funding help your child? When a child is eligible for EYPP, we receive an additional 60p per hour of their universal funded entitlement. This extra money is used in many different ways to support children’s learning, development and well-being so they can reach their full potential.

Examples of how we’ve used EYPP funding in the past:

  • Bought a large outdoor cascading water play wall
  • Purchased a wide range of sensory toys and resources
  • Had a Visit from Toms talking reptiles
  • Had Little stars come and do sing & Sign sessions with all the children
  • Sent staff on Makaton Training and VR trauma training

More recent ways we’ve used the funding:

  • Purchased A bouncy castle
  • Started a Home reading book club
  • Brought annual pass for our loacl farm to enjoy trips out with all the children

Our plans for future EYPP spending:

  • Run another Talking reptiles session with live reptiles
  • More Specific Staff training
  • More day trips speciifc to childrens intrests

We’re always looking at the best ways to use this funding to make a real difference for the children who need it most. ?
